T-Shirt Yarn – How to make T-shirt yarn

Hello, this is Needlepointers.com and I
would like to show you how to make t-shirt yarn which is also called t-
yarn. The t-shirt should not have side seams on it it’s best if it doesn’t and
if you’re using a t-shirt that has printing you should only use the unprinted
portion of the t-shirt to make the yarn. To start place your t-shirt on a flat surface and
we’re going to cut off the sleeves. And, also you’re going to cut off the hem. Now you’re going to fold it up. But not all the way to the top. You’re
going to leave about an inch or so along the top. Now, the next step i am going to mark it
at about an inch so that I know where to cut. Which I’ll be cutting. You can make
the material thinner or thicker depending on the width of your strips
that you’re going to be making. But, I do recommend that you do not make it less
than about a half an inch. Because if you do it might rip when you’re making the
t-shirt… when you’re stretching it. And I’m going to mark the top a little bit just
so that I cut in a straight line. You really don’t have to do this, you can
eyeball it. But I like to have it sort of, that I know that they’re all the same
width. So, that’s why I’m marking it quickly. Ok, the next thing we’re going to do is
we’re going to cut our strips. You’re going to cut all the way up but
not through this fold just through the first fold. These are now all cut. I’m gonna put them down so you can see. Now we’re going to want to do a
continuous yarn, it to be continuous. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to
open this up so you can see. What we’re going to be doing. Let me just put my hand in here. You want to continuous strip. Ok. So, if
you can see that. What we’re going to be doing is we’re going to be cutting. The
first one we’re going to cut on an angle to here. Then you’re going to cut the second one
from this spot to the bottom of the first one. And you’re going to continue
to cut on a diagonal. Now you can lay it out on the table but
I want you to see what I’m doing. So, I’m going to go like this and then
for this one, you’re going to go on an angle over to
the other one. Let me see if I can get on the table so
you can see better. It’s not hard once you get it started. You’re going to go on that angle. Ok. So, I’m going to cut from here over to
the other one. And, I’m going to continue to do that all the way along. Ok. On and angle like that. Okay, I’m going to continue to do it then
I’ll be back. Ok, once you have it all cut then all you
have to do is take the one end, and take one or two foot sections and pull it like this. And the material just
magically curls on itself. Now, if you want to learn how to join
t-shirt material together. We will have two videos with two methods on how to
join them together. And there will be links in the description below. So as you
can see there I’m getting my t-shirt yarn. You can have fun with this
yarn, crocheting, knitting, weaving. Anything. I hope you enjoyed this video please like
