Crochet feathers You can use them as book marker, with a dream catcher, as a garland, etc. You will need: Acrylic yarn or cotton thread (6 grams for each feather): recommended for 3 mm knitting needles 2 mm crochet hook yarn needle and scissors Step-by-step summary We’ll begin with a foundation chain that includes the calamus Then we’ll work some straight rows And finally we’ll work 6 decreasing rows Let´s begin… Slip knot Chain 7 Add 6 more chains for the calamus Chain 1, 6 slip stitches Now we have 7 chains and the calamus Continue: chain 7 Row 1: chain 3 (as 1st double crochet stitch) Work 2 more double crochet stitch (DC) in the same chain 3 DC stitches work 3 dc stitches together (DC3tog) Work 1 treble crochet (TR) stitch on the calamus DC3tog 3 DC stitches To finish row 1: Work 3 DC in the last chain Turn Row 2: chain 3, 2 DC stitches in the 1st chain (back loop only) 3 DC stitches back loop only DC3tog back loop only 1 front post treble crochet stitch DC3tog back loop only (remember to skip the treble crochet chain) 3 DC stitches back loop only To finish row 2: work 3 DC stitches in the last chain (back loop only) Turn Row 3 (we’ll repeat this row until we have 8 o 10 rows in total) Chain 3, 2 DC stitches in the 1st chain (back loop only) 3 DC stitches back loop only DC3tog back loop only Work 1 front post double treble crochet stitch (DTR) inserting the hook in the TR stitch 2 rows bellow DC3tog back loop only (remember to skip 1 chain) 3 DC stitches back loop only To finish row 3: work 3 DC stitches in the last chain (back loop only) Repeat row 3 until you have 8 or 10 rows in total Turn We’ll repeat row 3 one more time Row 4: chain 3 and 2 DC stitches in the 1st chain (back loop only) 3 DC stitches back loop only DC3tog back loop only Work 1 front post (DTR) inserting the hook in the DTR stitch 2 rows bellow DC3tog back loop only (remember to skip 1 chain) 3 DC stitches back loop only To finish row 4: work 3 DC stitches in the last chain (back loop only) Continue repeating row 3 until you have 8 or 10 rows in total You can see that this feather is reversible Now we’ll work the 6 decreases rows Here we are now… We’ll work the feather tip now And we’ll change color too just to see how to do it Cut yarn, fasten off Turn Insert the hook in 1st chain work a slip knot with the new color yarn Pull the stitch through the 1st chain We’ll hide the two yarn tails while working the 1st decreasing row Row 1 (decreasing): chain 3 and 1 DC stitch in the 1st chain (back loop only) 3 DC stitches back loop only Now you can cut the two yarn tails 🙂 Continue with DC3tog back loop only Work 1 front post double treble crochet stitch (DTR) inserting the hook in the DTR stitch 2 rows bellow DC3tog back loop only (remember to skip 1 chain) DC3tog back loop only To finish row 1 (decreasing): work 2 DC stitches in the last chain (back loop only) Turn Row 2 (decreasing): chain 3 and 1 DC stitch in the 1st chain (back loop only) 2 DC stitches back loop only DC3tog back loop only Work 1 front post double treble crochet stitch (DTR) inserting the hook in the DTR stitch 2 rows bellow DC3tog back loop only (remember to skip 1 chain) 2 DC stitches back loop only To finish row 2 (decreasing): work 2 DC stitches in the last chain (back loop only) Turn Row 3 (decreasing): chain 3 and 1 DC stitch in the 1st chain (back loop only) 1 DC stitch back loop only DC3tog back loop only Work 1 front post double treble crochet stitch (DTR) inserting the hook in the DTR stitch 2 rows bellow DC3tog back loop only (remember to skip 1 chain) 1 DC stitch back loop only To finish row 3 (decreasing): work 2 DC stitches in the last chain (back loop only) Turn Row 4 (decreasing): chain 3 and 1 DC stitch in the 1st chain (back loop only) DC3tog back loop only Work 1 front post double treble crochet stitch (DTR) inserting the hook in the DTR stitch 2 rows bellow DC3tog back loop only (remember to skip 1 chain) To finish row 4 (decreasing): work 2 DC stitches in the last chain (back loop only) Turn Row 5 (decreasing): chain 3 (as 1st DC stitch) DC2tog back loop only Work 1 front post double treble crochet stitch (DTR) inserting the hook in the DTR stitch 2 rows bellow DC2tog back loop only (remember to skip 1 chain) To finish row 5: work 1 DC stitch in the last chain (back loop only) Turn Row 6: work together: chain 2 (as the 1st unfinished DC), DC2tog, 1DTR 2 rows bellow, DC2tog and 1 DC Chain 1 to finish the feather Cut and weave in ends This feathers are reversible… You can see the rachis or raised center by the two sides And it’s all!
