[Music]>>US single crochet or the UK doulbe crochet
[on screen caption – the US and UK use different crochet terms. We will refer to both in this
video] A US single or a UK double is a small basic
stitch which creates a dense fabric perfect for small 3 dimensional projects like stuffed
animals, toys, or as japanese call it amigurumi As with the first row of any stitch you have
to work into the base chain. As this is falt, you need to create some height
so instead of inserting your hook into the next chain you insert it into the second chain
from the hook. This creates a ‘corner’ using the missed chain
which is the height the US single or the UK double stitch
Insert the hook into the second chain from the hook from front to back
Put the yarn over the hook and draw through to the front just through the chain
You’ll now have two loops on the hook Now put the yarn over the hook and draw through
both loops to complete the US single or UK double crochet stitch
Now repeat these actions into each chain until the row
[Music]>>When working each following row each row
is begun with what is called a turning chain This chain is used to get up to the height
of a US single or UK double crochet row With the US single/UK double crochet stitch
the turning chain is just one chain high Therefore before each row make one chain turn
your work then insert your hook into the next stitch from the front to the back going through
both strands of the stitch Two strands and one loop on the hook
Put the yarn over the hook and draw through to the front just through the stitch
You’ll have two loops on the hook Put the yarn over the hook and draw through
both loops to complete a US single or UK double crochet
[Music] Now repeat these actions to make a US single/UK
double crochet into each stitch to end [Music]
