DIY Learn How to Crochet a Flower for a Hat Purse or Shawl Tutorial Flowers

Hi I’m Donna Wolfe from naztazia.com Today
I’m going to show you how to make a large petal flower. This flower works great with
shawls or on a hat. To view this video in other languages, just click on the closed
caption link on YouTube, and turn on subtitles. From there you can choose from over 100 different
languages. To begin, you will need some yarn and a crochet hook. By the way, you can find
the written pattern on my website naztazia.com And if you need help with the basics of crochet,
please see my beginner crochet videos on there. Start off with a magic ring, which, is just
a loose slipknot. Next, chain 5. Now, do 1 double crochet stitch in the magic ring. Chain
2. Do another double crochet stitch in the ring. Chain 2 again. Then do 1 double crochet
stitch in the ring. Chain 2 again. Then do your final double crochet stitch in this ring.
Do another chain 2. Pull the starting end to close the ring. Slip stitch to the 3rd
chain of the original chain 5. You now have 5 large spaces ready to make petals for your
flower. Slip stitch in the first large space. Then do a chain 7. Now, wrap your yarn around
the hook 4 times. Insert your hook into the large space, yarn over and draw up a loop.
Yarn over, and take 2 loops off at a time. Repeat this: wrap the yarn around your hook
4 times. Insert your hook into the same large space, yarn over and take 2 loops off at a
time. Wrap the yarn around the hook 4 times again and repeat the process of taking 2 loops
off each time. Depending upon the type of yarn, you can do as many or as little of these
long stitches as you wish. In my sample, as you can see, I did a total of 6 of these tall
stitches in the space. Next, chain 7. And slip stitch into the very same space you did
all of those tall stitches in. You can see what the first petal looks like now. Do a
slip stitch into the next space. And, just as with the first petal, do a chain 7. Wrap
the yarn around your hook 4 times. Insert your hook into the space, and begin the process
of taking off 2 stitches at a time, just as we did before. Wrap the yarn around your hook
4 times again, and repeat the process. And just like the first petal, I did 6 of these
very tall stitches within the same space. To complete this petal, do a chain 7. Then,
do a slip stitch into the same space that we’ve been working on. Slip stitch into the
next space now. Chain 7, and begin the process all over again. Here is what the finished
flower looks like after you have completed doing all 5 petals, then cutting and weaving
in your ends. And here’s a nice button for the center. Now, if you want to make a smaller
flower, you can alter the number of starting chains. In this smaller flower example, I
only chained 5. And then, wrap your yarn around the hook only 3 times. Repeat the process
of taking 2 loops off at a time as before. With this smaller petal, I only did 4 tall
stitches. Then I chain 5 again to complete the petal. And do a slip stitch into the same
space. Repeat this petal process just like the larger petal flower. This is what it looks
like when you combine one larger flower and one smaller flower on a hat. I hope this video
has helped you. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel. Check out the description of this
